A plow operator prices a drive from a handful of facts. With these in the request, the first reply can be a real conversation about the property rather than a list of questions.
A rough figure in feet is fine, or “about the length of three cars” for a short one. On Old Mission and in the Leelanau uplands, where long drives are normal, this is the biggest single factor.
Asphalt, concrete or gravel. Gravel changes how the blade is set and where the edges are, and a gravel drive is harder to find under January pack without stakes.
Facing the road, turned sideways, or down at the far end with a turnaround. Say whether there is room to push snow to the side without burying a walk or a shrub bed.

Fall is the time to do this. Requests that come in during September, October and November are normally answered within one business day, by phone or text from the operator who covers that part of the county. Once the snow starts, the people returning calls are also the people driving the routes, so a written request sent mid-storm may not be read until the route is finished; if the drive is blocked right now, call instead.
